“What greater thing is there for two human souls, than to feel that they are joined for life–to strengthen each other in all labour, to rest on each other in all sorrow, to minister to each other in all pain, to be one with each other in silent unspeakable memories…” — George Eliot
I know you’ve heard me say it before: I LOVE shooting engagement sessions! I love hanging out with and getting to know the couple before shooting the most important day of their lives together. I love seeing their love play out on their faces, and in their little touches, and the way they hold one another. I love translating the setting we’re shooting in into something that magnifies the story of their love, and makes art out of their own romance. Love love love it.
This shoot with Marissa and Ryan just confirmed all of that to me! When I first met Marissa and Ryan for a consultation on their wedding photography, my husband and I sat across from them at a diner and within minutes we felt like we were on a double date with old friends. They are just that kind of a couple! Over our coffees, Marissa told us about losing her Dad to aggressive cancer about 2 years ago, and how important it is to her that he is honoured at their wedding. So, for their engagement shoot, they wanted to retrace the steps to the hunting shack. Marissa’s Dad took she and her sisters there more times than she could count, stopping at the bridge over the little river nearby, then honking as they crossed the railroad tracks. We stopped to take photos at each sentimental place along the way, even at the deer stands and in the field where the spent early mornings hunting together. Even got them cuddling in her Dad’s old green hunting shack chair 🙂 The whole thing was MAGIC! And I am over-the-moon excited to shoot their wedding next year.
This kind of romantic and sentimental session just feeds my soul. Thank you, Marissa and Ryan! Love on, love on, love on…
